The Last Candybender

Happy Halloween, everyone! This year, G was Aang, from Avatar: The Last Airbender, and we were Sokka and Katara. Aang's costume was from all new fabric, but Sokka's and Katara's were mostly from Goodwill findings. It was fun to deconstruct the clothes and remake them into costumes. We felt like we hit gold at the Goodwill, because we found a cross-front shirt (Katara), easily removable fur trim (Katara), an undershirt (Sokka), two of the exact same scrub shirt that could be made into a larger, cross-front shirt (Sokka), as well as sweatpants for Sokka that we ended up replacing with new ones from Target. One day later, we have two new costumes.

Today was a very busy day. Since soccer was rained out (thank goodness!), we only had three parties and trick-or-treating on the schedule. M and G attended a classmate's very well-organized and fun birthday party while I finished my costume. We all went to his soccer team's Halloween party after I got ready and made myself some "hair loopies". "Tara Coach" lives in a beautiful house near Marietta Square, and it reminded us a lot of our house in Ann Arbor. It looked to be about the same age, with several fireplaces, beautiful molding and windowpanes, and hardwood floors. If you can't tell, we thought it was beautiful. Not fancy, not big, just lovely. There is a photo of one of the kids at the party below, who was dressed as a mad scientist and whose moosetache, as G says, was the best thing ever. After that, G and I went to our neighborhood party while M came home to change and leafblow (a kid slipped on the driveway anyway) before joining us there.

Finally, it was time to trick-or-treat. We would probably have been tired at that point if we weren't so hopped up on sugar. This is the first year, we think, that we have made it to every single house. Aang is faster this year than in past years, and we hardly got through our whole flask of bourbon before we were home! Please to enjoy the photos from our day (and one picture for reference).

We are on our way to see The movie of 2009 (ours, of course, will be The movie of 2010).  Will report later.

Oops! Here Is The Other Photo

Hurry Up And Wait

Here are photos of us in the hair and makeup chair.  We have been waiting for two hours but will probably head down to the set soon.  So far we have gotten our wardrobe okayed, our pictures taken "for continuity", and worked on the Times crossword puzzle.  Interesting stuff!

Ready For My Closeup

A few days ago, our friends, the Conners, booed us. That means that they left a Halloween basket full of goodies on our doorstep, rang the bell, and hid. When G opened the door, they popped up from the far end of our front porch and scared the bejeebers out of the Chipster. Since it was then our turn, G chose to boo the Jones family down the street. They didn't answer when he rang the doorbell, but it was still fun.

Yesterday, I got my hair cut and colored, and since my eyebrows are blond and practically non-existent, I had those done as well. My hairdresser had to figure out how to freshen up my hair but not take off too much length, since I am growing it out in order to donate to Locks of Love. You will all get a chance to see the results in a theater near you, as tonight Matt and I are going to be extras in a movie called Life As We Know It. We are going to be in two scenes that take place in an airport security line, so wish us luck!

Monday, October 26, 2009

G had a make-up soccer game on Sunday, since a few of his games have been rained out and they want to finish the season before Christmas. It was a beautiful day for it, and we were happy that the fields were a little drier than usual so that the kids could run around without slipping all over the place.

Ready to begin

Put me in, Coach

Our little soccer star

After Chip's soccer game, we visited Uncle Shuck's Corn Maze. There was much to do there, like eat the best funnel cake on Earth, but we mainly went to go through the corn maze. It was difficult even with a map, so we couldn't imagine how long it would have taken without one.

Here are some photos from our adventure:

Warning sign

Not quite as high as an elephant's eye

Not sure we scared any crows...

Each station had a shaped punch in order to prove you actually made it to each station

Believe it or not, there are lots of paths and many, many people wandering around in there

Bun and Chip on the bridge near checkpoint 5

G overlooking the cornfield

A person could get lost in there

Check out this map - actually lots of it was washed out from the floods, but we did walk most of it

The Aangle Family

My mom and I finished G's costume last night, and we think it's pretty cool. Check out this photo next to the image of Aang, from Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Other People On The Road Today...

They're a bunch of turkeys.

Katto Bassey!

We came to the Braves' last home game of the season with our friends Tomoko-san and Jun-san.  It is the top of the 14th inning.  Lots of free baseball!!!

Back In The Tyvek

I haven't suited up in Tyvek in a few years, but today brought a new opportunity.  We worked at a couple of houses spraying a solution onto walls to kill the mold.  Here are a few pics from the first job site, the home of one of the most kind people we have met.
